My name is Rob LaQuinta and I have been an illustrator and product and packaging designer for over 25 years. I recently found an old three-ring binder filled with drawings I did when I was around eleven or twelve years old. After a day of pouring over them and reminiscing with a good friend, I was encouraged to share them with you.
It will be easy to see what was of great importance to me at this stage of my life — Star Wars, comic books, character creation, scary stories, and the rock band KISS. I could sit and draw all day without any hesitation. I believe it’s a freedom all artists wish they could recapture as adults.
Inspiration came from many places; magazines, coloring books, trading cards, and even my grammar school history class.
I have posted these drawings and stories as is — the crazy leaps in logic, spelling errors and all. It is what it is…just a kid having fun.
I hope you laugh the way I did when I rediscovered these drawings after decades in storage. But my real hope is they take you back to a time when a movie or comic book could change you so profoundly, the only way to express that excitement was to take pencil in hand and just draw!
